Zeus vs Hera Essay Example For Students

Zeus vs Hera Essay Many traditions had developed within American culture that breached this wall of separation. For example, our coins have In God We Trust printed into them, The Pledge of Allegiance still contains the phrase under God, and many of our governmental ceremonies have prayer as their opening activity. For years, many public school districts mandated that the school day begin with some sort of prayer. The first case to come to the Supreme Court regarding school prayer was that of Engel v. Vitale in 1961. A group of ten parents sued the Board of Education of Union Free School District No. 9 in Hyde Park, New York for having the following prayer said aloud in the presence of a teacher every day:Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers, and our Country. The prayer was composed by the New York State Board of Regents, which is a state agency, and which had broad supervisory powers over the states public schools. The prayer wa s part of the Regents Statement on Moral and Spiritual Training In The Schools.A class action was brought by a set of ten parents who felt the prayer was contrary to the religious practices of both the parents and the students, and they maintained that the states use of this prayer violated that part of the Federal Constitution that states Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion. This clause was made applicable to state law by the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution. We will write a custom essay on Zeus vs Hera specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The lower courts that heard the case upheld the power of New York to allow the prayer to be said each day as long as no student was forced to participate or if the student was compelled to do so over the parents objection. Education Should Be Free Essays

Education Should Be Free Essays Education Should Be Free Essay Education Should Be Free Essay The school is the last expenditure upon which a country should be willing to economize. Franklin D. Roosevelt Personally I believe, that education should be free. Every country should be interested in a well educated youth. That is because the young are our next generation and our future. Compulsory education is free, but higher education is really expensive. In Belarus 36% students are provided state-subsidized education. Other 64% pay about one thousand dollars yearly. 56 Average salary in our country makes up 400 dollars per month. Minimum consumer budget for a working woman of middle age makes up 230 dollars and for a student – 200 dollars. It means that higher education for a child from a single parent family is merely unachievable. 47 For the reason the tuition fees are raised once in a team, talented and diligent but of modest means students cannot pay after another raise and quit studies. It results in unrealized ambitions, melancholia and may lead to crime if such student cannot find job because he/she does not have a diploma. 2 However, tuition fees conduce to reduction of number of students who are not really serious and take up places in courses just because they do not want to work or do not know what to do. Therefore those who insist on knowing have chance to get education of higher quality. 50 I believe, that education should be free. I believe, that everybody should have equal opportunity to get a higher education, especially if he/she is diligent, willing and hard-working. Mihail Lomonosov, Marie Curie, Alexander Fleming and many other outstanding scientists were in need while getting the education. 46 Total: 251

Critically examine the sources of law which have shaped the English Essay

Critically examine the sources of law which have shaped the English Legal System. Assess which source is the most influential to - Essay Example This essay will assess the sources of law shaping the English legal system and in doing so will demonstrate why acts of parliament are the most influential source of law today. This essay is therefore divided into two main parts. The first part of the essay examines the four main sources of law and the second part of this essay examines the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty and its role in shaping the hierarchal order of sources of law today. The Main Sources of Law The four main sources of law shaping the English legal system can be classified as case law and codes of law. ... Only when statutory laws have been exhausted can a judge then look to case law. When both sources of law have been exhausted, a judge may rule on the matter and establish a precedent.10 As creative and as important as judicial precedents are, it is a long established principle that Parliament can overrule or alter any judicial precedent.11 Separate and apart from the binding nature of acts of Parliament, case law is also subject to a hierarchal order. This is established by the doctrine of stare decisis which compels a lower court to be bound by the previous decisions of higher courts or a court of equal rank.12 The difficulty with the doctrine of stare decisis is that although it establishes an hierarchal structure, a lower court may be bound by a faulty decision of a higher court and is powerless to overrule the decision.13 Master of the Rolls Lord Greene, established rules designed to resolve some of the difficulties that might arise when applying the previous decisions. Lord Gree ne ruled that when there was a conflict â€Å"between two decisions† of a courts of â€Å"co-ordinate jurisdiction†, the court must choose between them.14 However, where a decision of a higher court conflicted with a decision of a court of higher jurisdiction, the court must follow the decision of the highest court. A court when looking at decisions of higher courts could not â€Å"follow decisions of its own given per incuriam†.15 A decision is given per incuriam when it misapplies a previous decision or a statute.16 Noticeably absent is the authority to ignore a previous erroneous decision of a higher court. Obviously, case law serves an important function in shaping the English legal system. When Parliament enacts a law, it passes through a formal debate process

Causes Of The Civil War Essay -- essays research papers fc

CAUSE OF THE CIVIL WAR In 1860, the world's greatest nation was locked in Civil War. The war divided the country between the North and South. There were many factors that caused this war, but the main ones were the different interpretations of the Constitution by the North and South, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the arrival of Lincoln in office. These factors were very crucial in the bringing upon of the destruction of the Union. They caused immediate war. In 1791, the tenth amendment was added to the Constitution. The tenth amendment states that â€Å"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.† (Bailey 16) This amendment was the basis in which the South kept slavery. The states believed that since nothing was written in the Constitution about who should decide about the slavery issue, that therefore the states had the power to decide. On the other hand, the North didn’t feel such a issue was part of states’ rights. South Carolina was the first state to secede from the nation; other southern states followed after, thus causing the Civil War. After South Carolina adopted an Ordinance of Secession, the South Carolina convention issued a â€Å"Declaration of Causes of Secession†Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In it, it stated: â€Å"By this Constitution certain duties were imposed upon the several states, and the exercise of certain of their powers were restrained.....But an ...
